Renovating...while pregnant

Last year we bought a 1920's California Bungalow. Last year we had the whole house rewired, to bring the electricity supply around the house into the 21st century. We also discovered that our old clay pipes were cracked and full of tree roots, so they had to be replaced. All of them! In addition to this we had the ceiling and floor insulated and we completely gutted our bathroom for a complete renovation. We also updated the lights in each of the rooms. In November last year, we began gutting the back rooms of the house, removing internal walls, moving the kitchen, extending the living area and raiding the floor and ceiling in the kitchen, as well as creating an internal door to the laundry and second toilet and relocating the back door. We have just finished the flooring which entailed having new timber floors laid. In the next few blog posts I'm going to detail the renovations.
It has been a wonderful experience and my husband and I have learnt so much. We enlisted a talented builder and cabinet maker who have worked so well to bring our dreams to life. Our baby is due next Friday so we are also working on the nursery. I believe it will all come together in time.
I look forward to sharing the renovations and parenting journey either you!

The garden is something we will redesign. For the moment I will leave you with a lovely picture of my camellias.

New beginnings

Kung Hei Fat Choy! Today marks Chinese New Year. It's the year of the Horse. I thought it would be a most opportune time to begin a new blog. I've titled it 'zest and essence', which in some ways is a play on words because I love to cook with the zest and essence of key ingredients as they help to lift the dish in a whole new dimension. I also think that zest and essence also reflects the ideal of living life to the full. Finding what gives that added zest to life and the essence of what makes it meaningful.

Below is a photograph I took last night, on the eve of Chinese New Year. It is of the Sydney Opera House. I was really honoured to attend this event, organised by my husband. My favourite place is the Opera House and the photo was taken from the Overseas Passenger Terminal. It's also in my favourite colour.

I hope your year is filled with good health, prosperity, light and love!
